Episode 77 - Nick Redfern's Slender Man
Eric Renderking Fisk | March 31st, 2018
Nick Redfern is the author of dozens of books on the topic of unexplained phenomenon. His work is the essential reading for all of us who are passionate about alien encounters, government conspiracies, cryptozoology, and lost civilizations.
His book "The Pyramids and the Pentagon: The Government's Top Secret Pursuit of Mystical Relics, Ancient Astronauts, and Lost Civilizations." was published in 2012. As we all know by now, Nick was right on the money when mainstream media reported in November of 2017 on those same secret programs by the United States military.
In this, Episode 77 of The Metaphysical Connection, Walt Schanble and Eric Renderking Fisk, welcome back Nick Redfern to talk about his latest book - "The Slenderman Mysteries: An Internet Urban Legend Comes to Life."
From The Publisher:
It's the dead of night; you are fast asleep. Suddenly, you are wide awake but unable to move. Hunched over you in the shadows is an eight- or nine-foot-tall gaunt entity with spider-thin limbs, dressed in an old-style black suit, its pale face missing eyes, nose, ears, and mouth. You finally manage to cry out. The monstrous thing disappears as suddenly as it appeared. You just had a terrifying encounter with the Slenderman. Who--or what--is the Slenderman? His existence began on the Internet, but he didn't stay online. The Slenderman may be a tulpa, a thought-form that can stride out of our darkest imaginations and into reality if enough people believe in it. In May 2014, two young Milwaukee girls almost killed a friend in the name of the Slenderman. Perhaps, like the vast Skynet system in the Terminator movies, the Internet is turning against us--and attacking us with digital equivalents of our own online nightmares. The Slenderman has come to life. For the first time, this book reveals the full and fear-filled saga.
The Slender Man (also known as Slenderman) is a fictional supernatural character that originated as a creepypasta Internet meme created by Something Awful forums user Eric Knudsen (also known as "Victor Surge") in 2009.
It is depicted as a thin, unnaturally tall man with a featureless head and face and wearing a black suit. Stories of the Slender Man commonly feature him stalking, abducting or traumatizing people, particularly children.
The Slender Man is not confined to a single narrative but appears in many disparate works of fiction, typically composed online.
Fiction relating to the Slender Man encompasses many media, including literature, art and video series such as Marble Hornets, wherein he is known as The Operator. Outside of online fiction, the Slender Man has become an internet icon and has had an impact on popular culture, having been referenced in the video game Minecraft with the Enderman character and generated video games of his own, such as Slender: The Eight Pages and Slender: The Arrival. He has also appeared in Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story, the film adaptation of the Marble Hornets YouTube series, where he was portrayed by Doug Jones, and will appear in an upcoming eponymous film, where he will be portrayed by Javier Botet.
Beginning in 2014, a moral panic occurred over the Slender Man after readers of his fiction were connected to several violent acts, particularly a near-fatal stabbing of a 12-year-old girl in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
